This magnificent jaguar, Pedro Bello, lives at the Pilpintuwasi (Butterfly) Farm.
Thanks to Ms Roxie Walker, an archeologist and animal lover, the
almost 4 year old jaguar has got a comfortable cage in a natural
environment, and visiting the Butterfly Farm (and Wild Animal
Rescue Center) you'll see how strong and healthy Pedro Bello is.
As Gudrun says, "If we have to keep a wild animal in captivity we
at least have to make it as happy as possible"... and that
means for Pedro to get 3-4 kgs of meat every day.
Wild jaguars feed on almost any mammals, reptiles, birds and fishes to
get a minimum of 40% red meat in their diet. For Pilpintuwasi, just
to feed this Jaguar means an expense of $250-300 dollars a month, which
Gudrun covers with her salary teaching at the university of
Iquitos (UNAP)
