 For the last 8 years I have been running a little charity here in Iquitos that helps street kids and handicapped people. My charity is called the F.B.I. which stands for "Federacion de Borachos de Iquitos" ( Federation of Drunks of Iquitos). The F.B.I. was founded on the 24th August 1998 by myself, Philip Duffy (the British Consul ) and Alfonso Bayro a local businessman. Over the last 8 years we have helped over 5,000 street kids and many handicapped people. In the year 2000 I was introduced to a young woman called Monica Guzzman who suffered brain damage at birth and is mentally retarded. Monica is 32 years old, but has the mental capacity of a 5 year old child but she is always happy and never asks for anything. I knew she liked chocolate. A friend brought her some Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate from England soon after, and "bang" she's addicted , not any old chocolate, only Cadburys. This brand of chocolate does not exist here in Iquitos so I always ask friends to bring some with them when they come. In December 2006 I sent some e-mails out to my friends and asked them to post some Cadburys Chocolate to Monica. Within a few weeks Monica received chocolate from all over the world, literally a chocolate mountain. Nancy, Monica's widowed Mother keeps control of the "sweet" stuff so she doesn't overdose. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who made this unfortunate young woman very happy!
