Eco-Tourism in Iquitos

Eco-Tourism in Iquitos
by LORENZO
We are all aware of how the jet plane has changed tourism over the past years. Most of the worlds beaches have become loaded with expensive hotels, time share sales and people attractd to discos and wet T-shirt contests. These activites seem only to exploit the natural beauty and the only favorable argument is that it does produce jobs.

However there has been a great rise in the interest of Eco-tourism, a buzz-word throughout the world, covering not only ocean fronts, but river rafting, hiking, and a big surge in jungle retreats such as our own Refugio Altiplano. These activites not only provide some education but also act to protect the natural enviorment, and in most cases provide jobs for the indigenous natives.

Now tourists can feel good about spending their vacation money abroad knowing that in some way they are actually helping local economic and cultural causes.

Hats off to those pioneers in this industry...
