Amazon Golf Course Opens to Great Acclaim After 4 long years of construction the Amazon Golf Course opened on May 1st, 2008, and is the only place in the Peruvian Amazon to play golf. It was designed on 10 hectares, (over 24 acres) near the Iquitos to Nauta Highway, 10 minutes from the airport, or 30 minutes by moto-carro from the Plaza de Armas. ![]() The Amazon Golf Course's 9 holes are laid out over 2,500 yards with traditional sand traps, and water hazards and some surprises you will find only in the jungle like a 3 meter cayman in one of the water traps. Over one hundred beautiful Amarillo Palm trees line the fairways, and are landscaped in appropriate locations. The driving range is in the shade under a high, typical, palm leaf thatch roof. The Amazon Golf Course is also a bird watchers paradise and a wildlife sanctuary, a peaceful retreat to get away from the hustle and bustle of Iquitos. A visiting golfer from England said “Wentworth it is not, but we just love jungle golf!” The Amazon Golf Course is a “pay and play” course and is open to everyone and we invite visiting golfers to come and play a round. The cost for a round is only $20.00 and golf clubs can be rented. First tee off is 6.30 a.m. and last tee off is 4.00 p.m. For more information please call Mad Mick’s Trading Post on Putumayo Street 163 (upstairs).
