It was obvious what my subject would be, as my work here in Iquitos, Peru has been focused on traditional medicines since I arrived here 13 years ago. It was the Curanderos – the healers - that brought me to the Amazon. Perhaps you know them better as Shamans – the Keepers, the Holders of the Wisdom of the Ages, specially versed in the use of the many thousands of medicinal plants. They are the gifted ones, those they kept the tribes alive, the ones that understood how to use the God given Grace of the Plants to heal and to divine. It is because of these medicine men that we have been able to rediscover one of the traditional medicines used not only to control glucose levels in those persons with Diabetes II, but put the disease into remission. We are rediscovering the ancient remedies that kept the tribes alive for centuries. Gracia Ethnobotanicals E.I.R.L. There are insulin sensitizing agents such as glyburide (Glucotrol), the sulfonylureas (Diabenase), thiazolidinadiones (Avandia), metformin, which effects carbohydrate absorption (Glucophage) and Ascarose, which effects absorption as well. This group of medicines used for Diabetes type II treats over 5 million people each year and represents a large population of people at risk for renal disease, heart disease and other complications of Diabetes II. The various drugs all have specific types of toxicities ranging from hypoglycemia to lactic acidosis, to liver difficulties based on the specific drug use. There is therefore a pressing need for the development of different types of medicine that could control Diabetes II over time with durability and with a favorable or improved toxicity profile. In the Amazon milieu, there has been a long fascination with the pharmacological benefits of natural occurring substances and their potential benefits to man. Many of these substances have proven new scientific mechanisms for diseases as well as pharmacological therapies. It has been shown in the preliminary unblinded trials in Iquitos, Peru that the natural remedy, Elixir D2, not only lowers glucose levels in Diabetes type II persons to normal levels, but after finishing eight weeks of treatment this person then goes into remission. That is to say, no more diet and no more Elixir D2. The shortest period of remission witnessed by Gracia Ethnobotanicals has been one year. The longest is 13 years and continuing. The symptoms of a type II Diabetic person, i.e. swollen ankles and feet, loss of sensation in the tips of the fingers and toes, lack of joint mobility, erectile dysfunction, even loss of vision – disappear. Most of the symptoms are removed within the first three weeks and this has all been noted without significant toxicity. Lab tests have been run at San Marcus University in Lima, Peru as well as in Japan and they do not show significant toxicity such as would cause either primary or secondary effects. TREATMENT – In order for the remedy to be effective, all facets of the program must be adhered to. The treatment devised for those participating in this program is divided into three sections: Elixir D2 – Diet – Exercise. Elixir D2 – Recommended to be taken three times a day before meals. The suggested dose is 4 ounces, three times a day, just before meals, however you may discover that 3 works better for you as you and your doctor monitor your progress. The diet is to be maintained during the 8 weeks of treatment. Exercise – It is a proven fact that exercise helps maintain lower glucose levels. Because of this, Gracia suggests at least a 20 minute brisk walk or some other type of cardiovascular activity daily. Those following the above procedures should see their glucose levels moving into normal ranges within 48 hours and remaining in normal levels during the entire 8 week course of the treatment. Following 8 weeks, the patients no longer need to take Elixir D2 and can eat a normal healthy diet. Gracia suggests you eat like a normal healthy person and not consume obsessive amounts of sugars or fats. Their experience with this treatment has shown that Diabetes II will go into remission. For how long is mostly determined by your eating and exercising patterns. We have had one person whose glucose levels returned to Diabetic levels after being in remission for one year.
