It is with much sadness that we announce the death of one of the great friends of Iquitos, John Mack. We were very fortunate to enjoy but a short time with “Montana John” as we knew him. John a quiet, peaceful man, a friend to all he came into contact with. John could always be seen around town on his motorbike and it came as such a shock to us all to hear of his untimely death on 10th April 2007 in Mancora on the Peruvian coast. It was only last September that John was part of the fastest foreign team to compete in The Great River Amazon Raft Race 2006. Team Captain Dale Baskin of Seattle said “ We were looking forward to competing again this year but now we have lost a good friend and our best paddler. John is survived by his 2 daughters Lyndsey and Sarah and his 2 grandsons Jon Nicholas and John William.
