 For 7 years there has been a raft race here in Amazonia. Organisers of the event say that this years Great River Amazon Raft Race will be the BIGGEST and the LONGEST ever.  In fact it will be the "World's Longest Raft Race!" |
 The race will take place over 3 days, 22nd, 23rd and the 24th of September of 2006. The 140 mile course will start in the town of Nauta and will have a Grand Finish in the Iquitos port of Bella Vista Nanay. |
| It is expected that more than 70 - 4 person teams from various countries will compete for the coveted "Schneider Trophy" and the more than $3,000 US. in prize money. |

We have been promised both national and international television coverage.
The City of Iquitos offers a fabulous welcome to all foriegn competitors. The Entry Fee for international teams is only $200 US per crew of 4 and this will include: Transport by riverferry to the start at Nauta on 21st September
A ready built balsa wood raft and paddles
3 nights hammock accomodation on the river ferry
The Peruvian Navy and Coast Guard will be standing by to provide safety and rescue operations if needed. |
